A Common Promotional Product FAQ

A common question we are asked by clients is this, "I have a $1000 budget. Should I buy 1000 $1 promotional products or 100 $10 items?" Although the numbers vary from client to client, this is a frequent question we get. As a promotional products professionals, we know much more information is needed to answer the question properly. With this limited amount of information, it not possible to advise properly. To best answer this question, certain details are required. Below are 3 questions that must be considered in order to make the best decision.

  1. What is the overall goal of this campaign? If your goal is to introduce your company or service to as many people as possible, then go for the masses with the lower priced promos. However, if you are interested in giving a gift for those who show an actual interest in doing business with your company, the higher priced gifts are certainly best. If you are leaving behind a gift from a sales call and you choose a cheap item, that will not leave the most favorable image of you or your company.
  2. Who is the targeted audience? You should always buy promotional items based on who will be receiving them. If you are passing out items at an elementary school, then the lower priced items will work well. However, if you are giving away items at a country club event, the lower priced products won't sit well.
  3. Will the majority of the recipients be current clients, past clients, or potential clients? This is important to know for several reasons. One reason being that your current clients are worth more to you. They already know you, like you, and trust you. Spending a little more money on higher quality products is a great way to reward them. On the other hand, if you are giving out items in bulk to a random crowd, the lower priced items are great to spread your name among the crowd.

So in the end, this really isn't a hard question to answer. With a a few answers to the easy questions above, you can quickly decide how many items you should buy for your budget. The end result is to provide a meaningful product to recipients so they will remember your company in a positive way.
